The Days of Ramadan Day 3: Jesus in Islam vs. Christianity
Today we delve deeper into to the division between Muslims and Christians over the person, work, and teaching of Jesus Christ.
Key Points:
1. Jesus in Islam:
• Jesus (Isa) is considered a prophet in Islam, highly revered but not divine. Muslims believe that He was born of the Virgin Mary (Maryam) and performed miracles.
• The Qur’an rejects the crucifixion of Jesus, asserting that He was not crucified but rather taken up to heaven by Allah.
• Jesus will return in the future as part of the final judgment, where He will defeat the false messiah (the Antichrist).
2. Jesus in Christianity:
• Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human, whose death on the cross and resurrection provided salvation for all who believe in Him.
• The crucifixion and resurrection are central to the Christian faith, demonstrating God’s love and the hope of eternal life through Jesus.
Reflection:
For Protestants, the Islamic view of Jesus is one of the most profound differences. While both Muslims and Christians revere Jesus, the Christian understanding of His divine nature, His sacrificial death, and resurrection is unique to Christianity. A Protestant perspective might view Islam’s treatment of Jesus as a misunderstanding of His identity and role in salvation.
