Teach Us to Pray

This will be a living document that I intend to update periodically. The main focus will on providing helps to new disciples who need to learn to pray.

  1. Start here. Memorize 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe Who has given “to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence…” Why? First it’s shorter than the prayer Jesus modeled for his disciples which we will learn later. As a new convert to Jesus you may often feel at a loss for words and feel confusion about not only what to pray, but how to pray also. This verse is a great place to start learning how to take a moment, compose yourself internally, and pray out loud. This prayer will teach you to acknowledge that God is the King of your life now. It is a confession that you have received the gifts given by him. It reminds you that life and godliness are one in the same and will help you remember not to put an arbitrary diving line between the mythical “sacred” and “secular”. It will remind you that your status as a disciple of Jesus and believer in God is secure because Adoni knows Jesus and because of that has called you into glory and excellence. If you possess these things in Jesus now, God live in them today.
